Hello, my name is Melissa Patterson. I am passionate about practicing and teaching yoga at SHINE. I started practicing yoga with a dear teacher friend of mine, Sherri Lattanzio in 2009. Sherri invited me to a Baptiste yoga class at Anjali Power Yoga and I fell in love with the practice. I became a member and took Wanda Gilhoul’s classes so when she opened the first Shine studio in Maple Shade I knew I had to make it my yoga home.
I love practicing yoga at Shine and there are so many reasons why but here are my whys today. I am passionate about yoga for the fluidity of the practice, for the flexibility of it, to relieve stress, for the health reasons, for the physical fitness, to self-reflect, to just be with myself in a safe space, to be with the SHINE community, to practice self-compassion and kindness to myself and others, and to continue to grow myself and the community.
Here I get to put myself first and it feels good which is very hard to do at this point in my life with a young energetic family of 3, a husband, and 2 jobs. I am a 200hr certified yoga teacher and I got my training through SHINE Power Yoga. I love my job as a teacher at SHINE. It feels good to give back to the community and share my passion for yoga.
I love greeting new and old yogis with a friendly smile before they get on their mats, witnessing everyone’s individual accomplishments every time they are on their mats, and seeing the results of their practice.
I also have a Masters Degree in Education and I am an instructional coach for middle school special education teachers. I also have a Tools for Teachers diploma from Yoga Education that qualifies me to teach kids yoga. I enjoy teaching kids yoga too because it really gives a lighter and a more playful twist to the yoga process.
My schedule is Monday Maple Shade at 7:30pm power yoga and Thursday Maple Shade 7pm gentle vinyasa.
